Frozen Flora

Creative Arts

Iced FlowersIn his exhibit Iced Flowers, Japanese floral artist Makoto Azuma wanted to convey the temporary nature of life by combining two beautiful but notoriously short lived items — hot-house flowers and ice. Each arrangement was suspended and frozen within a block of ice and then set in stark contrast within the bleak and “inorganic” ruins of a decaying warehouse.

I also recommend checking out Azuma’s Exobiotanica — floral arrangements (and a bonsai tree) launched 30,000 meters into the stratosphere and photographed with a GoPro.
